Addis was founded some 118 years ago by empress Taytu because of its hot springs, which she used to attend at every chance she got due to its medicinal and recreational values. After spending some time there she decided to bring the palace to these hot springs and named the place Addis Ababa. Here we are all these years later and we haven’t yet embraced the resources that Addis has to offer as much as we could have done it.

Since then, there have been efforts to up the coverage by the EEPCo (Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation), by MoME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) and various aid organizations focusing on the energy sector.

SUDU for Ethiopia!
An alternative sustainable solution for the current housing problems has emerged.
SUDU (Sustainable Urban Dwelling Unit) began as an international research laboratory promoting new technical developments for the housing sector. This research project is a collaborative effort between ETH Zurich and EiABC (Ethiopian Institute of Building Construction and City Development). Currently, EiABC is putting a great effort to promote quality education and practical research in the construction sector.
