A Green Economy Needs Green Technology

There’s a lot of talk about the idea of a Green Economy. It basically means an economy that continues to grow without using up or destroying the Earth’s limited natural resources. The idea goes back to the 1970s, when a group of scientists called the Club of Rome (www.clubofrome.org) warned about the dangers of an ever growing economy with an ever growing consumption of limited natural resources and predicted that some of these resources might be completely used up by 2050. The more recent debates about climate change and peak oil are going in the same direction: an economy based on using up limited resources will sooner or later collapse – and in the process destroy most of the planet.
